Rain damages roads in Payangan, Baturiti and Klungkung
By Joe Wasia, living in Bali for 15 years · Published 4 Nov 2026, 4 min read
This week in shortHeavy rain on 1 and 2 November damaged roads in Bali's hills: a village road in Payangan (Gianyar) collapsed and is closed, six landslides and fallen trees hit Baturiti on the way to Bedugul, and a road in Klungkung lost half its surface. BPBD Bali asks people to watch for floods and landslides through the change of season, and from 3 November bus riders can switch from Trans Metro Dewata to Trans Sarbagita without paying again.
The headlines
- Payangan: the Banjar Gambih road in Desa Buahan collapsed on 2 November and is closed
- Baturiti: six landslide and fallen-tree incidents; one-lane traffic at Banjar Pacung
- Klungkung: half of the Timuhun to Bumbungan road sank next to a ravine
- BPBD Bali: watch for floods, landslides and fallen trees until about December
- Buses: free transfer from Trans Metro Dewata to Trans Sarbagita, 180 minutes, from 3 November
Heavy rain from Sunday afternoon, 1 November, into Monday damaged roads in three regencies. One village road in Payangan is closed, several roads in Baturiti were blocked for a while, and a road in Klungkung lost half its surface. Yesterday we reported on the road cut towards Kintamani; this is the damage reported since then.
Payangan: road in Buahan collapses and is closed
In Desa Buahan, Payangan (Gianyar), the edge of the road at Banjar Gambih started to wash away late on Sunday night. By about 6am on Monday, 2 November, the road had collapsed. Gianyar police put the hole at about 20 metres deep, 15 metres long and 7 metres wide. Nobody was hurt.
The road is closed and police ask people to stay away from the edge and use another route. On Jalan Raya Buahan, in the same village, a landslide covered about 10 metres of road with soil on Monday morning; it was cleared by 9:45am and that road is open again. Payangan is the hilly area north of Ubud, so if you ride the back roads there, check with your villa or a local before you go.
Baturiti: six incidents on the way to Bedugul
Heavy rain on Monday caused at least six incidents in Baturiti, Tabanan, the district on the main road up to Bedugul. Landslides and fallen trees blocked village roads in Mekarsari, Antapan and Bangli (the village in Baturiti, not the regency), and a fallen tree hit a building at the Apuan hot springs.
At Banjar Pacung, Desa Baturiti, part of the road shoulder sank and the road got narrower, so traffic was taking turns in one lane. The district head said BPBD, the public works office and residents had dealt with every site, but she warned that more landslides can follow on steep slopes. If you ride to Bedugul or the lakes, expect slow sections and go up in the morning, before the afternoon rain.
Klungkung: Timuhun to Bumbungan road half gone
In Banjarangkan, Klungkung, about half of the road between Timuhun and Bumbungan sank on Monday morning. The broken section is right next to a ravine. Police have put a police line and warning signs at the spot and ask riders and drivers to slow down and take extra care there.
Change of season: BPBD asks people to watch for floods and landslides
On Tuesday, 3 November, Bali's disaster agency (BPBD Bali) asked people to stay alert during the change of season, which BMKG's climate station expects to last from late October to December. Weather can change fast in this period. The risks named are floods and standing water in low areas, landslides in hilly areas and fallen trees when heavy rain comes with strong wind.
BMKG's forecast for Wednesday, 4 November, shows no rain for any regency: partly cloudy in Badung, clear in Denpasar, hazy in Gianyar and Tabanan and fog in Bangli, with highs of about 27 to 32°C. The weather has turned quickly this week, so keep the raincoat under your seat. Our guide to riding safely in Bali covers riding in the rain.
Buses: change to Trans Sarbagita without paying again
From Tuesday, 3 November, people on the Trans Metro Dewata (TMD) buses can carry on with a Trans Sarbagita bus without paying a second fare. Before, the free transfer only worked between TMD buses. The time allowed for a transfer also went up from 90 to 180 minutes.
The free transfer works for one person per account. If you pay for several people at once with QRIS, the free transfer does not apply, so in a group each person needs to pay for themselves.

Questions people ask
Is the road to Bedugul open?
The reports describe blocked village roads around Baturiti and one-lane traffic at Banjar Pacung on 2 November, with every site being cleared. None of them say the main road to Bedugul was closed. Ride up in the morning and expect slow sections.
Will it rain in Bali this week?
BMKG's forecast for 4 November shows no rain for any regency, but BPBD says the change of season, until about December, brings sudden heavy rain. Carry a raincoat.
Can I change from Trans Metro Dewata to Trans Sarbagita for free?
Yes, from 3 November, within 180 minutes, for one person per account. Paying for several people at once with QRIS does not get the free transfer.
